The summer break was good, because… Well, because you can properly relax and spend some important time with your family. It was a lovely time. The end of last season was… Frustrating. For me personally anyway, because I couldn’t help the team in the most important part of the season. And to have to look on from the sidelines is probably the hardest thing for a footballer. It was frustrating for the team, too. Unfortunately after winning the league we weren’t able to reach the final of the Pokal and we also missed out on the Champions League final. That was obviously very disappointing, but we’ll be back to fight for it again next season. My best moment at FC Bayern was… That’s easy to answer – I think any Bayern fan could answer that for me. Therefore I won’t answer it now, because I think everyone already knows. I feel at home in Munich because… Everyone here is very friendly and nice. Munich is a superb city and the club is very familiar to me. All the ingredients are there that you’d need to feel at home. Something typically Dutch is… Cauliflower and sausages. I wear no. 10 because… Because it was free when I joined, and it’s obviously one of the best numbers. My predecessor was Roy Makaay, a fellow Dutchman. The no. 10 is always a special number… and it was free so… why not. My nickname is… I’m not sure. Sometimes they call me Boyke, which is quite a Dutch name. When van Bommel was still here we spoke a lot of Dutch together. Now he’s gone and I’m Boyke. What does Boyke mean? It means something similar to “lad”. My body is for me… Very important. My body is important and I need it to be able to play well. I hope that it will support me again next season. I do press-ups… I do press-ups… You mean how I do them, right? I’ve actually never tried. I obviously always do a number of exercises in the gym, press-ups too. But I don’t tend to do so much in the gym that I wear myself out and then can’t train afterwards. But I still do a bit. My hidden talent is… I really don’t know if I have any other talents apart from football… I used to be a pretty good tennis player, and when I was younger I had to decide whether to pursue tennis or football further. So yes, tennis would be my hidden talent. I give it my all on the pitch because… Because it’s fun and I enjoy it. The best footballer in the world at the moment is… Your biggest role model when you were younger was… The thing that makes me laugh is… My children! That was easy, this is going by quickly now. My family means… to me. Everything, that makes it easier. In a word, everything. In Bedum (Robben’s home town) I am… At home, I feel at home. My perfect day would be… My perfect day… I’d obviously… Well, that’s… I think you get more than one perfect day in life. One perfect day would be a day when I’m free, when I don’t have to be here or worry about training or about football – rather I could just be at home and enjoy spending time with my family. But then another perfect day would start with me coming in early, doing a bit of light training, then going to the hotel at some point or playing a Champions League game in the evening or a Bundesliga game in the afternoon. Basically travelling to the Allianz Arena and playing there. Interviews are for me… They’re part of life. You’re a professional footballer, doing interviews is just a part of that. Obviously I prefer to be out on the pitch, and like I said playing football is more fun that giving interviews, but it’s all part of the same career. If I could introduce a new rule in football, it would be… Wow, that’s an interesting question. There are obviously always those little finer details and those stupid red cards! If you handle the ball on your own line you’re already punished because you’ve conceded a penalty, but to get a red card too is too much I feel. But anyway, I think that football should stay as football and that there shouldn’t be too much technology in the game. It should stay as the beautiful game, a game that can surprise you. My goals for next season are… To win titles. More than one. After retiring from football I would like to… I’d simply like to do things that I haven’t been able to do so far during my football career, like going skiing or even enjoying the little things in life: family birthdays, friends. Just to be around… and to enjoy other things.
