Beginning Tennis Tips & Techniques : Tennis Forehand Ground Stroke Form

November 5, 2019

On behalf of Expert Village my name is Joe
Spano. In the next series of clips we are going to be demonstrating the forehand ground
stroke. Using the eastern grip or sometimes young players like to use the advance western
grip. Primarily what we want to do is show the stroke and what I like to do with beginners
is to show the full strokes before we break it down into parts and this is what the forehand
stroke would look like. Turn, step, through the ball at the waist, up, and follow through.
If you notice the balance is the same as the forehand ball that is why we emphasis coming
across the line in a full stroke here through and up. I will now will break this stroke
down into smaller parts.

his eastern grip is a continental and his extreme western grip is an eastern grip. WHO PLAYS A FOREHAND WITH A CONTINENTAL GRIP????? if this guy was my coach id fire him

Does this guy have deformed legs? Junior players have way better follow throughs right over the opposite shoulder. This guy's finish is old fashioned and will have poor acceleration. Also this stroke looks pretty flat – he should set the wrist so that it is arched at the back of the downswing so that he can properly swing upwards and brush up the back of the ball. Always teach topspin first – a player can then adjust to hit 'flat' although pros always swing up and no stroke is truly flat.
