Haringey Borough walk off in FA Cup tie vs Yeovil after keeper ‘racially abused’ – The News

October 24, 2019

Haringey Borough’s FA Cup fourth qualifying round clash with Yeovil was abandoned after the home side walked off the pitch amid reports their goalkeeper was racially abused  Rhys Murphy was preparing to take a penalty for the visitors in the 64th minute when Yeovil fans appeared to throw objects at home goalkeeper Valery Douglas Pajetat  Murphy converted the spot-kick but tempers flared and the home side opted to walk off the pitch, with Pajetat said to be “visibly upset” as he alleged he was the subject of racist taunts and spat at by away fans  Team-mate Coby Rowe amongst those to react angrily and be restrained by security as players from both sides left the pitch  Yeovil’s captain went over to speak to his own supporters, as did the referee, before players from the home side opted to leave the pitch    Security attempted to escort a number of supporters out of the stadium but they resisted and refused to leave  The game, with a place in the first round proper up for grabs, was held up for more than 20 minutes with players back in the changing rooms as officials considered how to deal with the incident  The game was eventually abandoned and players from both sides returned to the pitch together in a show of solidarity  Haringey Borough tweeted shortly after the abandonment stating: “Sorry for the late update but wanted to make sure we gave correct information  “Game has been abandoned following racial abuse. Horrendous afternoon. It must be said that 99 9% of @YTFC fans are also disgusted by what’s happened as much as we are.  “One club, one community ”  Cameroonian goalkeeper Pajetat, at the centre of the incident, played in Portugal for a number of years before joining Margate in 2016  He joined Haringey Borough, who play in the Isthmian League Premier Division, in 2017 and has established himself as their first-choice goalkeeper Read More Mirror Football’s Top Stories  The alleged incident comes just days after England’s game with Bulgaria was twice halted in the first half with players threatening to walk off over racial abuse  After the sickening scenes in Sofia, FA chief Greg Clarke noted that racism remained an issue in the English game  He said: “I think at UEFA we need to really address that, but to be perfectly frank we also still need to address racism in England Read More England suffer racist abuse in Bulgaria  “We still have it, we have it throughout the pyramid, we see examples of it every week from the professional game down to the grassroots game  “We shouldn’t take the moral high ground, we should join a movement to drive racism out of our game and have zero tolerance for it ”

I've just heard the manager speaking on BBC Radio Five Live and his sadness was palpable, but he spoke really well. When are the authorities (The FA, Government, FIFA, UEFA) going to take this seriously? The brain dead people who racially abuse anyone should face big fines, lifetime bans and, in the worse cases, imprisonment. That is the ONLY way to knock this out because these people are beyond education.

If this is the only way to stop this sort of abuse from taking place then so be it. I don't turn up to my place of work or anywhere else for that matter and expect to have things thrown at me and to be abused because of the colour of my skin.

Racism is a bad thing. And we all should unite against racism! However I'm appalled by the hypocrisy of the British press that branded one litle friendly nation – Bulgaria, "animals" and "racists". In Bulgaria, all 16 people that showed racist behaviour were identified and arrested. They will be sentenced. But here, it happened in London and yet nothing in the press, nobody was arrested and officially there is no racism in the UK! How sad…

I think it's disgraceful that fans still do this in 2019, but where the hell is the security? The home team walked off the field because of the visiting fans? WTF?
If there was any kind of security, they would escort every single one of those idiots out of the stadium. I don't see how the home team can walk off the field in protest.

They probably wanted to see an English team, not a United Nations

First of all I was at the game today and I didn't hear any so called rasicts chants from where I was have spoken to several other ytfc supporters from each area they didn't hear any either, if this is true I am ashamed of these "fans for this type of behavior, it is not acceptable in any environment" however how will they be able to prove this and there is a danger of pitting players against fans just on heresay bearing in mind bt sport have said the opposition goalie was stirring up trouble.

Is it really racism,or an attempt at distracting the goalie…
Ppl on the opposing side,do get peaved off if a foreigner plays for the other side and is a very good player! and prevents the opposing team from scoring

Absolutely ridiculous in this day and age,it’s 2019 for fucksake!!!these small minded morons probably thought they’d get away with the abuse because the game was not televised and was at a little place like Haringey. They need naming and shaming!!So the stewards couldn’t manage to eject them?why weren’t the police called? These people who abuse and associate themselves with a club like Yeovil are a fuckin embarrassment .The culprits should be banned for life ,names and shamed, they will lose their job and livelihoods.👍

This happens all over Europe but I had mistakenly thought we had kicked this out of the game forever but it'll never happen as long as there are racists in society this will happen..No need for it at all.

I think that ,it is a fantasy that racism will ever be erased completely from some people's minds for ever, nope if that's so then blacks should be comforted and inspired by the illustrious footballing talents they've brought to the Premier League over a long, long time otherwise thinking that racism is going to end anytime soon, just forget and just think of what's you can do and achieve on the pitch, that's the ultimate satisfaction after all

this will always be in the game unless they take serious action, im a 15 year old goalkeeper from spain so im a brown skin colour and i was called up for a game for the under 20s (currently play for under 17s) so this is me over the moon and happy with being picked for a game, and there is about 8 middle aged men giving little comments about my weight and making monkey noises, it didnt effect me at the time as i brushed it off but in the changing rooms after it i sat down and just got very upset, (also im good at english as i was just born in spain and moved over here at early life)

Has this been proven yet .. bottles yep need witnesses to validate or they will get away with it.. they won’t just take ones words for evidence.. jussie has taught everyone to get facts first or overreacting can make u look a bitch.

Don't get me wrong here, for what I really meant to say is that by trying to focus more on one's potential in any sphere of life, this phenomenon called racial discrimination hurts less and less because it makes you aware of your own worth in a society
