#MurrayMondays – First Volley

January 26, 2020

This questions is from Marco who is asking about the trajectory of the first volley and if it’s important to keep the ball low. So I would say if your opponents are playing one at the baseline and one at the net it’s important to keep a low trajectory. I try often to focus on hitting at the net tape because obviously if there is an opponent at the net and you hit it too high it makes it easier for him, because if he does make a cross or a poach, to then hit down on the ball, he can hit it harder and harder for you to reflex. If both opponents are playing on the baseline then obviously you can have a slightly higher trajectory on the first because there’s not receiver’s partner pressure to worry about and you can hit a softer, deeper shot back to the baseline to keep them pinned to the baseline.

Sound not great. Also your drills on court are so much better.

How come you strictly play doubles and not singles?? You have the talent for it and still young? Some new gens play both bc they can.
