‘Rafael Nadal has asked ATP to change Roger Federer schedule’: Conspiracy theory circles Rafael Nadal was scheduled to start his quest for glory on Sunday with Roger Federer getting underway on Monday. The pair were guaranteed to be in separate groups as they are the World No 1 and No 2 respectively. However, the schedule has had a late change with Nadal now not playing on the opening day. The Spaniard is in action on Monday instead with Federer opening the Word Tour Finals on Sunday against Jack Sock. The late change in order of play has left fans fuming – many of whom bought tickets to see Federer on Monday. It’s led to speculation the schedule has been changed to give Nadal an extra 24 hours to recover from his right knee injury. One confused fan wrote on Twitter: “Whats the CORRECT schedule? Been getting contradictory info for the last hour. Federer himself says he starts on Sunday, others say Nadal on Sunday. Help!!!!!!” Another fumed: “suing the atp for telling me federers group plays monday when now the bbc is saying sunday THIS IS NOT A GAME GUYS SOME OF US ARE ACTUALLY HOPING TO SEE THE OLD MAN IN ACTION.”. It led to one user claiming he knows the reason why – and it’s all down to Nadal’s fitness. He wrote: “Fed will start on sunday to give more time to Nadal to heal. Nadal asked ATP to change from sunday to monday.” Another, meanwhile, was left ranting about a wasted ticket. They wrote: “Have the ATP mucked it up again..second time this week. Got excited thought might finally get to see Nadal on Sunday but had hopes dashed.” Nadal will be hoping to overcome any injury concerns as he looks to clinch his first title in London and will likely have to overcome Roger Federer, who has won the last five meetings between the pair.
