Roger Federer hands Rafael Nadal No 1 spot – but his tweet suggests he doesn’t really care But his latest tweet, sent minutes after opting out of the ATP Masters 1000 event, suggests hes really not too bothered. Federer tweeted a picture of himself kissing the Swiss Indoors trophy for a record eighth time. Alongside the picture, he wrote 8 is gr8 with a muscles and trophy emoji. Federer pulled out the Paris Masters this week after winning the Swiss Indoors yesterday and the Shanghai Masters two week ago. Nadal is 1,460 points clear of his great rival with only 1,500 up for grabs at the O2 Arena. It means the Spaniard only needs to win one match in Paris to rack up an unassailable lead. But the Swiss 36-year-old revealed his body wasn’t up to another event so quickly with the ATP World Tour Finals in London in mind. Federer said: Im really sorry I am not participating in the Rolex Paris Masters this year, but my body needs some rest after the Basel tournament. I have played a lot of tennis this season and I have to take care of my body if I want to continue playing at the highest level in the years to come. In 2016, it was very painful to miss half of the season, so I learned from it. Federers withdrawal is a major blow to the tournament, the final Masters event of the season, and tournament director Guy Forget said he was extremely disappointed.
