When you are a Liberal and caught red-handed cheating……accuse the other person of what you are guilty of (Projection). That is what the Democratic Party has been doing for 2 years (and their media parrots it over and over until their gullible base believes it). Look no further than Hillary and the Left accusing Trump of colluding with Russia, when it is a FACT that Hillary was the one colluding with Russia (paying for a fake dossier from a Russian for the basis of the fraudulent FISA warrant).

So what these bozos are saying is that a woman can be disrespectful to authority and brake things ( racket ) and its everyone else's fault.

  • Reply White Trash September 11, 2018 at 11:44 pm

It's sexist to enforce the rules when the athlete in violation is a woman apparently.

  • Reply Leonardo Costa September 12, 2018 at 12:14 am

WHAT?? to be a strong woman does not mean to be a disrespect person.. PLEASE Serena try to be reasonable!! and at least try to follow your sport greatness and this way you can be close to something also respectful..

  • Reply Leonardo Costa September 12, 2018 at 12:26 am

Every body is sure that you still have a strong tennis to play but if you choose to play politics I don't think it's going to work well for you. You better leave all your trophies and personal accomplishments at home and bring your tennis to the court and we going to enjoy some great great battles..

No Class ~ Nothing to do with gender or race. Williams was frustrated because she was losing to a better player , lost her temper and compusure and took it out on her racket and the chair judge. The same call could have happened by a female chair judge. Serena was a sore loser , played the victim and is no role model. Total meltdown by Serena ….inconsiderate , disgusting , sad and shameful. Osaka , on the other hand was great and showed class, composure and humility. Congratulations to Naomi Osaka !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The lesson for the children is to behave like Naomi and NOT Serena !

Williams behaved like a spoiled brat, this had absolutely nothing to do with racism or sexism and everything to do with an entitled brat who lives in a bubble of sycophants being made to obey the same rules as everyone else.

The disturbing thing is the ridiculous claims that this was racism and/or sexism actually give ammunition to the alt-right anti-PC crowd because this is so obviously not a case of either.

The no-coaching rule may not often be enforced but it's on the books and williams knew quite well that it was, her coach admitted that he was coaching her so her trying to deny it now makes her look even worse.

She knew when she broke the racquet she was going to be sanctioned – when she was docked the point she must have known her next breach would lose her a game but she still didn't have the self-control to stop herself, what a terrible role model.

I am a former certified Swiss Davis Cup umpire with a MIPTC (Men International Professional Tennis Circuit) license. I herewith state that Carlos Ramos did NOTHING wrong during the entire 2018 US Open women's final.
However, the way Serena Williams behaved was pathetic, arrogant and disgraceful. After all, she was the one who owed an apology, to the talented and brave Naomi Osaka who dominated her throughout the entire match, and whose victory she managed to sully.
Serena's behaviour reflected her tantrum against a lineswoman, some years ago, in the same event, during her match against Kim Clysters

  • Reply Maria Teresa Vivar September 13, 2018 at 1:45 pm

You guys don't know anything about tennis. The rule is "no coaching under any circumstance" during Grand Slams end of the story. You break your racket, you are penalized, verbal abuse is always penalized, all this was done by Serena and Serena's team, the rules are there to be enforced to EVERYONE! The Empire never called her a cheater, you guys didn't watch the match or you are changing all the facts. Serena reacted defensively to the coaching warning because she was caught, everyone saw and knew that. Serena decided to take Carlos Ramos coaching warning to a different level because she she was losing, something that Serena can't accept. It is all about Serena. Serena's coach was coaching and even Chris Evert mentioned during the match that "Serena saw her coach coaching" suggesting she should go to the net. Carlos Ramos is one of the best umpire of the USTA. Serena is not a true champion like Naomi Osaka. By the way, it seems that MSNB couldn't find other better tennis commentators that actually know about tennis and that are not bias, but simply objective. This is the worst tennis related interview I have ever seen in 40 years that I follow tennis very close.

Guardian Newspaper -It's not just Serena: how umpire Carlos Ramos has clashed with players
    1. At last year’s French Open, he drew criticism from the eventual champion, Rafael Nafal after they argued during a fourth-round match. Ramos gave Nadal two warnings for slow play, and the Spaniard felt he was being unfairly treated. “I say it with sadness, but he is an umpire who scrutinises me more and who fixates on me more,” Nadal said after the match. “He also pressured me about coaching. I have respect for him and all I ask is for that to be reciprocated."
    2. Ramos has also been accused of inconsistencies. At this year’s Wimbledon quarter-final between Novak Djokovic and Kei Nishikori both players threw their rackets to the ground in frustration. However, only Djokovic was issued a warning and directed a comment at the umpire during the game: “Double standards, my friend, double standards,” he told Ramos.
    3. At the 2016 Olympics, he issued Andy Murray with a code violation when he thought the reigning champion had called him “stupid”. “I didn’t say ‘stupid umpire’, I said ‘stupid umpiring’. But if you want to be the star of the show, that’s fine,” said Murray as the two spoke during a break between games.
    4. Williams’s sister, Venus, has a history with Ramos too. At the 2016 French Open he accused the elder Williams of receiving coaching during a match, the same offence he penalised Serena for on Saturday. Like her sister, Venus denied she had cheated. “I’m 36 years old,” she said. “I play fair.”

My concern is why is it that these so-called tennis associations (USTA and the ITF) have only allowed men to officiate of BOTH finals of the 2018 US open finals. There is conspiracy particularly when the women's final is officiated by a controversial white male umpire.

In a act of unmitigated irony. This media tries to justify the belief. That black women, are subject to harsher standards of judgement, because a white man, after quietly and non re-actively suffering 10 minutes a harsh verbal abuse. Used his authority ,as judge, to stop an adult child from throwing a loud public tantrum. An authority, that all participants at the event, had tacitly agreed was his to employ and was well within the guide lines of it's use. Yet HE is the one being criticized.

Serena is an awesome player but awesome players are not immune to the rules of tennis male or female, on that day at that moment the coach was caught coaching wither Serena saw it or not first violations (warning to player) second violation came when she abused and smashed her racquet (lose game point) the third violation came when she abused the umpire and called him a thief and a liar (lose a game) If you break the rules their are consequences attached to the action, if Serena had carried on with another violation she is now then disqualified (End of game) its that simple if Serena/Naomi had smashed their racquet x4 that equals 4 violations which will result in disqualification if players/coach was caught coaching x4 same result. Rules are there for a reason if the world had no rules there will be chaos….. the umpire/players are governed by rules as are we all to society. Carlos Ramos acted in the utter most professional way. Naomi well played let your actions do the talking. Serena awesome player but please leave some cards for others 🙂

Poor reporting. The coach admitted coaching. The loss of a game was the third violation. A rule which Serena would know. She allowed her emotions to get out of control. Sometime you have to lose gracefully. MSNBC should have brought up the coaches own statement as well as the history of statistics related to violations for men and women. Most violations are against men.

2009, 2011, 2018 US open what happened? she was losing thoese matches when she made those infamous outbursts. people who think she is right fail to realize there is a progression of penalties in tennis. serena didn't get a game penalty out of the blue. she commited two previous violations and she should have realized her next one will be a game penalty. even with that in mind she continued to rant and berate the umpire. this umpire is well known to be a stickler for rules and she knows that but she couldn't control her emotions and let it get the best of her. using sexism as an excuse to validate her rant belittled osaka's victory. other players male and female in most cases would shut their mouthes after receiving their 2nd violation knowing that the next one will result in game penalty. however serena chose to continue to berate the umpire. she talks about her integrity but what about the umpire's integrity when she calls him a liar and a theif. the umpire just followed the rules. i've lost complete respect for serena to pull this kind of behavior and use sexism as an excuse. • Reply Jack Wang September 18, 2018 at 4:39 am

The discussion should be about the rules of tennis in this match, not about Serena and the alleged discrimination she had faced outside of this match.
What most commentators missed was that Serena was not docked a point because she broke her racket or a game because she abused the umpire. Those are all code violations. She got docked the point because it was her second code violation and a game because it was her third code violation. To say other men players are not similarly penalised is false. If those code violations are their first. the players will only get a warning. How is it no one is speaking on this? To claim sexism and racism is ludicrous as her opponent was also a woman of mixed parentage. Let's call a spade a spade. Serena lost to a better player on that day, whether or not she wants to admit.

sexism right? rules don't apply to men right?

tell me again how Serena being one of 16 women in 20 YEARS to get a violation for verbal abuse is the sexist man keeping women down.

plus Carlos never called her a cheat, Serena called Carlos Ramos a liar and thief. let me point out that Serena's coach admitted to coaching. maybe it's because i'm Asian and my English isn't great but a man saying "yes I was coaching" means he was coaching.

She was losing and threw a tantrum but defenders will say she was just emotional. Those same defenders will go after kavanaugh and his emotional moment though
