For the second straight time in a row, Angelique
Kerber and Bianca Andreescu have played against each other in a tournament as after their
epic Indian Wells final which the latter won, the two faced off this morning in the Miami
Open third round. Angie started the match off strong breaking
Bianca off the bat, but Bibi would then win the next 10 out of 13 games to go up 64 41. Kerber would then elevate her game winning
the next 5 games of the set taking it 6-4. At 2-1 in the third set, Bianca took her third
medical time out of the match which seemed to prove to be effective as she would win
the set and the match 64 46 61. Now the match took another turn, even after
its conclusion as when the two went up to the net to shake hands, Angie said this,: If you couldn’t hear that Kerber said “You’re
the biggest drama queen ever” to Andreescu and Bianca didn’t even respond she kept
walking shook the umpire’s hand and acknowledged the crowd. This could’ve been because she might not
have heard what she said. Now while many were confused why Angie would
say something like this after the match, the 3 medical time outs Bianca took, especially
the last one could’ve frustrated Kerber and she probably thought she was faking it. Angie was probably also annoyed at Bibi even
before the match started as in their Indian Wells final, Bianca kept launching balls at
the German which hit her a few times obviously frustrating her. In the handshake after that match though,
I expected a not-so-friendly handshake, but the two actually had a nice embrace. To break it down and be as blunt as possible,
the main reason Angelique said these things to Andreescu was that she was frustrated and
upset she lost two the same player twice, and they were both matches she could’ve
won. It was also late after this match which could’ve
added fuel to the fire as well. Now while Im sure these factors had a lot
to do with this, I believe Angie was in the wrong by saying what she said. Bianca is only 18 years old and has played
a lot of tennis in the past two weeks. She basically won a grand slam last week when
she won Indian Wells as she had to win 7 matches to get the title. Then to travel to Miami and play your first
round match after not even 5 days is a lot to handle. Then for Andreescu to come back 4-6 1-5 down
in her first round match against Begu to be victorious is a tremendous achievement on
its own. When you take all of these things into consideration,
you shouldn’t be mad at someone for taking a Medical Time Out. Kerber has been critical of players having
MTOs in crucial points of the match, as she gave Makarova the same treatment as the Czech
too took a pause in the game which Angie clearly didn’t appreciate. If these feelings of animosity come from Bibi
hitting her last week, then now is not the time for scolding someone about it. Angie probably didn’t say anything to Bibi
because she realized the big moment the teen was having, but that does not mean you can
bring your hateful feelings into another setting. Either express them at the appropriate setting
or let them dissipate and don’t bring them out at all. Thats all for todays breaking tennis news. Do you believe Kerber was right in dissing
Andreescu or do you think she was just salty because she lost. Leave your thoughts in the comment section
