Hi everyone. It’s Markus from “All about Tennis”. In todays video, I want to show you how to hold the racket correctly for all kind of strokes. I will explain this for every stroke that are available in tennis. In the beginning the grip position is the most important thing to learn because only with a good grip position it’s possible to play a clean technique at all. You can remember them easily with the following trick. The racket handle has different surfaces. There are eight surfaces in total and putting this bone below the right index finger to the
different surfaces of the handle will help you. I highlighted my handle with different colours. On top is blue, the angled surface pointing to the upper right is green and down here is red. Now, I’m holding the racket in front of me like this. The surface of my racket is vertical. First I show you the continental grip. I practically grap the racket so that the bone below my right index finger is on this angled surface, the green surface pointing to the upper right. When holding the racket it’s like a hammer. A bit like I would want to hit a nail with the frame. When taking the racket like this, I cannot only feel the bone of my finger on this surface, but I can also check it
from the outside and see that the bone under my index finger is right above this surface. You have to be careful. Even when placing this bone there, it’s still possible to hold the racket unfavourably, for example if I take it like this. What I’m showing here is like placing all my finger bones almost perpendicular to my handle. And that’s not good. The finger bones are not totally parallel to the handle of the racket just almost parallel My index finger bone is on this surface, the others go a bit further down. This is the continental grip. And with this grip I play a lot of strokes, in fact all strokes, except the forehand and the backhand
topspin. That means I play forehand and backhand stop, forehand and backhand slice forehand and backhand volleys with this grip. I also perform all my serves with this grip. I do the first serve, kick serve, slice serve, forehand, backhand, overhead smash, everything with this continental grip, some people say middle grip or hammer grip, they’re all fine. Let’s move on to the next grip, the forehand topspin grip, also known as semi-western grip. It’s perfect for a forehand topspin. When placing my racket in front of me again, then I got down right here, at the angled surface pointing right to the ground, there on this surface I have to put this bone below my index
finger again. By doing this, I got the semi-western grip. When I turn my racket now, you can see that my fingers end approximately at the frontal upper edge, that’s how I like to explain it as well. And that would be the forehand topspin grip. This grip is only made for the forehand topspin. I can see again, that the bone is on this surface, when looking at it from the outside. Here you can make the same mistake by holding the bones too inclined. Relatively strong, a bit like this. Now the index finger points relatively strong to the front, All the bones are almost vertically to the handle. That wouldn’t be so good. That’s not a good grip. Better to place the bones parallel to the handle, not completely, but almost. Similar to the continental grip. That would be the forehand topspin grip. Let’s talk about the one-handed backhand topspin grip. I put the bone below my index finger on the upper surface again. I highlighted it in blue. The other finger bones are slightly in front of it. The other finger bones are almost parallel again. And that would be the backhand topspin grip. Concerning the two-handed topspin, I haven’t made a video yet. However, I will show you the grip in this video. A video with the two-handed topspin is in the pipeline. For a two-handed topspin the left hand is more important for me as a right-hander because the stroke is performed
with the left hand. Here, I highlighted the angled surface in black. It shows down to the left. Of course, I now take the grip with the bone below my left index finger. In the same way I would play a forehand with my left. That’s exactly how to hold the racket with the left hand. With my right hand, I hold the racket up here, you can make the continental grip with the right hand, and with your left practically a forehand topspin grip, a semi-western grip. I suggest to beginners to grip around a bit more.
In the direction of a one-handed backhand topspin grip. And to place the right hand between a continental and a backhand topspin grip. Somewhere between.
That means, that this bone is relatively close to this edge.
Between green and blue. With the left hand it is the forehand topspin grip. That would be perfect for a two-handed backhand topspin. I hope you enjoyed this video. See you next time.
The practice of pressure-situations in your tennis lesson ist not that easy. With the elevator principle I`m going to show you how to practice pressure situations in 6 drills. Hi, nice to see you back. I`m Martin and today we are talking about the practice of pressure situations… …in your tennis lesson. But first I like to thank the Tennis-Point store in Kassel for sending me this nice hoodie. If you need any tennis equipment have a look to their store! Back to topic: Pressur situations in your tennistraining…. ….thats not that easy. Practice is practice and match is match. And the player knows that it has no consequences if they will lose the practice game. He is not retire from tournament or had approach or maybe paid startmoney. And that is not easy to readjust in your tennis lesson. So how can you practice that? I excogitate the elevator principle. The player start on floor 5… …and has to reach floor number 10 to win the game. But he will lose the game if he reaches ground floor. Now I think of a drill, for example hit the ball long on a target. If the player hits the target he will raise one floor up. If he hits the net or out he goes one floor down. If the player hit the field but does not hit the target zone he will stay on his floor. The clou of this drill and why there is a pressure situation is following: Let`s say player start on floor 5 and plays 4 errors. Then he is on floor 1 and knows exactly: When I miss the next ball I´m out. So the player is set under pressure and need to practice to play a long ball under pressure situation. When we play on lenght – he does not to be afraid of missing the ball on a matchpoint situation. It`s also working the other way: Lets say the player is on floor 9 and needs one more ball to win the game. Here the player learns how to handle a leading situation. The player has to stay concentrated and needs to stay focused to win the game. So here are my 6 drills with the elevator principle. You see how versatile the drills are. Have fun. 6 7 6 3 2 1 – last chance 2 – you saved it 1 2 1 2 1 6 7 6 7 8 7 8 9 10 well done well done 6 5 4 out 5 I reached your shot and played it in=-1=4 Good +2 is 6 Good 8 7 Reached it but I missed it so +1 for you is 8 10 you win! Call: middle Outside – so +-0 Call: Outside – yes +1 Call: Outside Nice +1 Double fault=-1 Call: Outside well done Call: middle well done 7 Call: middle 8 Call: outside Was in=9 Call: outside Yes – you win Call: middle Yes you hit it Ok good – +2 for you Call: outside Fault -1 Call: middle Was in Bummer! How do you like this principle? Let me know in the comments! I would be very happy if you follow my channel or have a look on my other videos. You might find… …al lot of usefull stuff for your tennis lessons. See you soon, Martin
Today I`m going to show you “Double-Touch” another very good small-field game for 4 players for warmup. You want to know more? Then stay with me. Nice to see you again. My name is Martin and I´m going to show you a nice small-field double game today. You see a lot of things are happening here, I`m working on the background of my videos… to make my youtube channel a bit more professional. Too bad the softlights are not here yet… …but I didn`t want to let you go to the weekend We are talking about double touch. It`s perfect to warm up and also that popular like “Monkey Tennis”… …which I already showed you in one of my last videos. Its also popular but a bit more ambitious, that mean that it might be too difficult… …for young kids, that have just started playing tennis, especially did not learn how to play doubles… …. or are not good enough in playing volley. But for a bit more advanced players it is a good game and my kids love it. The fun factor is the focus in this game, but I would also count tactics, volley practice and teamwork… …as the focus of that game. Let me show you the rules and how Double Touch is being played! You can also play double touch a bit more less difficult, maybe for players that are not that good… …in playing volley. Maybe for kids you can allow having more than just one contact for every player or…. …letting the ball jump twice on the ground. It`s up to you how you mix up the rules. I just wanted to show you the main game rules. And I`m exited what you think about this game. Write it down in the comments, or maybe you have another tennis game you like to show me. You are welcome! Dont`t forget to follow my channel to be up to date for folling videos. Yours, Martin.
[Musik] Domi, we are back again in this beautiful location. This training camp is almost a tradition for you Tell us, is it work? Is it fun? Or is it both? I’m here for the seventh time now and things changed in a positive way, I would say. because the first three times I have been here I was on the ranking at 500 or 600 and I stayed at a little room with Günther half an hour away, gewohnt so eine halbe stunde zu fuß von [Stachi] That’s how the time is changing.. [Domi] Yes, that’s how the time is changing. And at this time we walked here every morning by foot, where I played with Ernest Gulbis And the last couple years, since my ranking is much better, I’m staying right here in this hotel. That makes it much more comfortable and since than, every day is really hard but I can relax pretty good every evening and most of the time I’m fit for the next day! [Stachi] You are always learning, are you doing something different this year? We saw a lot of pictures, there was the military training, that is kind of a a test of courage, What did you learn about last year? Do you make shorter periods? Or more intensity? How is it? [Domi] It is pretty similar to last year because last year it worked out pretty well I went out of the training camp in a very good shape and that’s why we didn’t change to much. Due to David Goffin da ist oft haben wir ein bisschen öfter we had two shorter training session, than one long one. But otherwise it didn’t changed to much. The fitness as well, just because last year worked out pretty well. [Stachi] We did this cool thing with the live training, everyone can watch it. A lot of people wrote: “Goffin is a really nice guy, we always thought he is quiet and arrogant” Domi, you know him for a longer time. He is really a great guy, right? [Domi] Yes exactly! I have never thought he is arrogant! [Stachi] Because you know him! [Domi] Yeah right, I know him almost my whole life He is a nice guy. Sometime he seems a little shy but he is totaly fine. [Stachi] You really went out of daily life, after the season, which was really hard, are you doing really nothing during your vacation or do you always have to do something? [Domi] I flew away for a week I didn’t do anything, only two or three times fitness with Kiki but nothing else. Than I played soccer and paintball one time. [Stachi] Okay, with some friends? [Domi] Yes, with some friends! Most of them are free right now. At this point I started moving myself again to get my body a bit more energy again. because to get the body from 0 to 100, isn’t good. That already went wrong last time here, went I got sick. so I’m trying to build it up slowly. [Stachi] Do you meet other players during vacation? It seems like all the players have the same destination.. Angie, for example is diving over there do you meet other players over there or not? [Domi] All on the maldives. Some always meet I have been there the second time, and was lucky to be the only one on the island. [Stachi] What is also good sometimes. You talked about Kiki, how big is the topic ‘tennis’ in your relationship? I think you are lucky, that you both are tennis players, because I think you would see each other not to often if she had a different profession . Maybe 15 to 20 weeks if it’s going well. Are you guys really talking about tennis or are you trying different things? For example, you are at a tournament. It is almost impossible to avoid it, right? [Domi] Then we are talking about tennis, during the vacation as well. Not necessarily about our tennis but about different view, stories, gossip and so on. That is definitely the topic, we know the best! We both know almost every player, also funny stories so we talk a lot about tennis and sometimes about her and mine tennis. In London she was with me as well and she had to practice over there, because our vacation was after that, and of course I tried to help her and other way around. She has some qualities, I don’t have and also other way around. zu produzieren und umgekehrt ist genauso [Stachi] I have to ask you a question may wife wants to know… Kiki gave an incredible interview about what she is appreciating about you. That sounded like a man of her dreams so you can be proud about that. What are you appreciating about her? I don’t find it easy. Of course she is a tennis player as well and she knows your life She is acceptating it and understand it more than others. So what are you appreciating about her? Why does it fit so well? [Domi] I like her character and her appearance, of course! [Stachi] Yes, that’s right. I can understand! [Domi] And it just happened, it has everything what is important to me in a relationship and in love. I’m not a big fan of looking for a relationship on the internet. And that just happened to both of us, she actually wanted exactly what I wanted and then it slowly developed and I think that’s why it works so well. And of course, because we both know very well about each other and also the profession, over the other his lifestyle. [Stachi] And you can also estimate each other. She knows when you need your rest. [Domi] Exactly and of course, because it never go out of stories, so it never gets boring which, of course, it is important for the future!
