Hi my name is Lincoln Ward. I am the director
of the Austin Tennis Center as well as a USPTA Certified Teaching Pro here in Austin, Texas.
Today we are going to talk about what your tennis racket is made out of. Tennis rackets
back before 1970 were generally made of wood. After a little while they used instead of
one entire piece of wood they would layer wood on top of itself to create a layered
racket. After that time they started making aluminum and steel frames too that were lighter
and more flexible than their wood predecessors. Soon after that they started playing around
with graphite. Then, nowadays they are still using graphite but mixed in with a variety
of different materials such as kevlar, fiberglass and materials such as that that will help
make rackets lighter as well as either stronger or more flexible. That is what your tennis
racket is made out of.
