Tennis Doubles Strategy : Shot Selection for Net Player in Doubles Tennis

August 29, 2019

I am Jason Gerardo at Gold Key Racquet Club
in beautiful Phoenix, Arizona on behalf of Expert Village. Okay, in this clip what we
are going to talk to you about, we are going to talk to you about the kind of shot that
you want to hit. We have talked to you about the position. We have talked to you about
the movement. We have talked to you about which way to go and which serves do you have.
Now we need to think about what kind of shot you want to hit and what you do with the ball
as it is coming to you. Okay! So, what I like to tell players, I like to tell them to keep
it real simple to have one shot in mind. Your highest percentage shot in doubles, and the
highest percent shot for the net person is the T area right there. This area right here.
If you can aim in that direction, you are not going to hit it long most likely. You
are not going to hit it wide most likely. You are not going to hit it in the net. You
are aiming for the middle of the court. So if you have that predetermined in your head
before you hit the shot, then it is a lot easier to react. A lot of players will do
this. They’ll see a ball coming and they will just react, and you have no idea where you
are going to hit your shot. It is just a reaction. You don’t want to play their ball so much;
you want to have an idea of what you want to do. So, before the point starts, I am telling
myself in my mind, my server’s going toward the T and now, I make the move toward the
T and I know what I want to do with my shot. I envision it in my head before I even hit
it. Okay. The serve goes to the T. I’m going and then I am going in that same direction
right there, and I already have it. It is a lot easier to react that way if you already
have it in your head before you do it.

Jason. This is great and its what I learned to do myself to become a much better net player. I always have the shot in my head before hitting it and try to teach people to do that. Surprise no other players knows about this.
