Incredible film! And shoutout to Shimano for sponsoring a video that focuses on what Thomas wanted to show and not seeing XTR components in every shot. Hell, I saw the Fox fork more than anything Shimano on his Bikes! 🤣

  • Reply Beyond Our Arena February 20, 2020 at 6:38 am

I clearly remember when thomas revealed himself to the world, in the film kranked 3, it was just pure emotion. Like an art, not like a sport. So much emotion, perhaps because he was one of the first freeriders to come from mtb spontaneous generation, who did not come from bmx, motorbike, ski, snowboard, or another sport.

  • Reply MIKROMATIQUE February 20, 2020 at 8:16 am

This is truly a piece of art! Great filming, great editing, emotional story and all this with one of my favorite riders… 🖤

    Thanks for this guys!

    Thomas and Wade are legends

  • Reply jcnbw01 February 20, 2020 at 12:25 pm

I still clearly remember watching Kranked for the first time on a bootleg VHS from a friend and seeing these crazy gaps and lines. Simmons, Vanderham, Leech, they immediately became my heroes, and fueled the adventurous side of my teen years with my ridiculous hardtail, hand-me-down forks, and seeing gaps and lines wherever I go.

and STILL these youngsters fail to understand how and what mt. biking was .
It was taking a bike to the mountains or hills or on any footpath and simply riding your bike .
There were no disc or even rim brakes in those days , no suspensions front or back , no special geometries , no nothin. Just any old crappy steel framed bike with some fairly big tires would do and a lot of praying that you would be able to stop before running into something solid.
The thrill was NOT riding on pavement but in nature . That was it . I’m still wondering when flying through the air all started . guess i missed that part ,cause i still keep both wheels on the ground . 😂

  • Reply Greg Bird February 21, 2020 at 5:25 am

That… was spectacular. The vintage late 1990's footage takes me back to the days when the RM Pipeline was the raddest thing I had seen (owned) and man… what a rad time it was.

Brilliant, so glad I found this.

I remember going up to BC, and meeting Thomas. I was from the Tahoe area and the terrain and skills were a complete different universe for me. He's always been one of my favorite pro riders, down to earth and without any extroverted BS. Great video!
