Wimbledon Museum Teen Takeover

February 6, 2020

My name is Shavon and I’m going to tell
you all about Coco Gauff We visited No.1 Court where she played for the first time at age 15 against Venus Williams who has won The Championships five times in the past. Coco managed to get to the fourth round knocking out Venus in the first round. After the match she donated her whole outfit to the Museum. I’m holding in my hand Coco’s wrist and headband It’s so pretty, I didn’t know fashion played a part in tennis. What’s fascinating is that she’s younger than me and has managed to achieve such a high standard. It’s inspiring to see young black excellence. My name is Gabriel and I’m going to tell you about Serena Williams. Here with me today I have one of Serena Williams’ trainers she wore in 2019. After the match she donated them to the Museum. This is fascinating because as you can see here there are the dates she won the Ladies’ Singles Championships which is seven times. Serena is inspirational to me because she always tries her hardest and never gives up. I even got a chance to sit in the press room today where Serena Williams and many other players are interviewed. My name is Cherise. I am holding in my hand here the exact coin used to do the coin toss at the beginning of the 2019 men’s
final. What’s fascinating about this coin is that it’s been to space and back isn’t that amazing? We visited Centre and No.1 Court which are the most famous grass tennis courts in the world. It was also interesting to find out that No.1 Court holds up to 12,345 people which is easy to remember because it’s one two
three four five. We’ve also learnt the reason why tennis players wear white because in Victorian times they discovered white disguises sweat…
